Until now, I have made it to the 7th week of Y Combinator start-up school (YCSS) and learned so much! The last post was July 16, I’ve come so far and noticed how quickly time flies when you are on a schedule. When YCSS finally ends I will be investing more time in posting and structuring. To think, the amounts of individuals that I’ve spoken to, the new friendships, the fundraising, the traveling (to San Mateo 🤗… which is a 40 min drive lol), and the overall experience. I can’t say I’ll miss it because this is what I do lol… AWESOME!

Quick summary of the weeks and lesson titles.

  1. What is Startup School and where it will take you

  2. Evaluate your idea and example of the grind

  3. How to plan an MVP, set your KPI’s, and business models

  4. How to get your first customers and talk with them. More examples

  5. How to pivot out of tarpit ideas and build something people want.

  6. Importance of Co-founders and how Fundraising works

  7. All about the Y

BootCamp Coding

Harvard CS50 is absolutely amazing! After some research, I found the best solution for my coding needs. Can’t help but feel the greatness of attending Harvard, albeit a program and not the actual school BUT WHO CARES!! I took a Harvard class and got a pretty paper for it too! lets goooo😎. Ok, ok I’ll be honest… haven’t finished it yet but I am on the 4th week of a 10-week program so I’ll be getting there soon enough.

MVP

The MVP is ooUutt!! The button on the top will lead you to the form version of the MVP and the android app is installed on my phone! If you are interested in downloading the MVP subscribe and I’ll send the link to the download!

“If you are not ashamed of your MVP, you aren’t moving quick enough” -YCombinator

aaanndd man, am I afraid of people downloading it! It’s clunky, it’s buggy, it’s missing main features, and overall a pretty underwhelming experience… but it’s mmmiinneee 🥰 and with everything that I learned, it was well worth it. (maybe lol)

Monday & Wednesday Y Combinator classes and the future Jul 16

Y Combinator and Me!

Man oh, man!! it’s really hard to not get emotions fluffed and ready for action than a great class from Y Combinator! For those that haven’t heard of this wonderful venture, Y Combinator is an accelerator program that helps fund startups as well as education( Startup School) for the founders on what they think makes a successful startup into a successful business. You can visit their website HERE. With co-founder matchups, local group meetups, resources, and more.

Gezzus how awesome can they be!

My thoughts so far are profound on so many levels. Maybe we’ll get into my experience in a later stack. Three weeks into Startup School and not one class has been a waste of my attention. With a sense of awe-aspiring material that one could take immediate action to, it’s hard to feel like any venture will be easy but more importantly, the key takeaway, it’s doable. I look forward to creating an MVP within the week. . . . ( few days pass) So here’s what I came up with! as a barber the hardest thing to remember is the small details that make each haircut unique.

As a client learning the language can be challenging

The form has a few questions that should help with defining your haircut. + you can send it to anyone.

You can ask your professional to take the pictures, take them yourself, or upload pictures from around the internet you’ve found. The sections will create a better understanding of what you are looking to get. clunky as it may be ITS THE MVP BABY!!! Let's go!!!

UPDATE!

If you have an android you are welcome to check out the app aside from the haircut form

Click below if you are down to try it out

Changes Everywhere!

Emanuel Ornelas "Manny"

First, I'd love to thank everyone for the support and recommendations people have provided over the years. Everyone here makes a good old-fashioned barbershop.

Now! you may have seen some dramatic changes on the website. To name a few, color scheme changes, new features, new products, and a new overall business view. You can check out the Monthly Barbershop News announcement on their website or subscribe so you get it delivered monthly lol. Subscribe now to keep updated with the new things coming soon! Or if it makes it easier, read the blogs.

Did you know aside from being a small business owner I’m working on a Startup?

"Waaiiittt whhhattt"

Heck Yeah!

Let’s clear the table for a moment. I am a business owner/ independent barber. Been doing it for some amount of years and personally, I feel like there’s much more that I can learn but more importantly experience. In my line of work tho, it can get difficult to remember everyone’s haircuts. So I’m off to fix this solution quickly! Check out the custom Haircut form. It’s a work in progress but it stays true to entrepreneurship! It’s my MVP baby!!

Don’t Have Time to Read?

Podcast coming soon!

I know, I know… I’ve been saying that to all the clients that have came in & out but getting things ready took me a lot longer than anticipated lol

Stay tuned !
